City puts communication tower projects up for Bid

Communication Towers may soon loom on the horizon as the
City of Prince Rupert upgrades its water communication infrastructure

As the City of Prince Rupert moves forward with its ongoing project of upgrading the city's water supply, the infrastructure both at Shawatlans Lake and at Montreal Circle in the city is due for some new equipment, with the City looking to have two communication towers put in place to improve Water related software communication options between two sites.

As part of the upgrade program, the City of Prince Rupert is looking for a supplier to install two towers, as well as fibre and supporting systems between the two locations, one at Shawatlans Lake and the other at the Montreal Circle location on the city's East Side.

The Request for proposals, which was posted to the BC Bid site on August 1st calls for a tower standing just below 30 metres (96 feet) near some cleared land beside the water tank at Montreal Circle, with fibre lines to be connected from the tower site to the Frederick Street Pump House.

The second tower which would also be just below 30 metres (96 feet) would be placed 186 metres north of the Shawatlans shoreline, in a hilly area overlooking the shoreline infrastructure.

In their documentation, the City outlines how they will go about evaluating and making their selection:

The evaluation of the RFQ will be conducted by a committee formed by the City and may include, at the City's sole discretion, employees, consultants and contractors. Quotation s will be evaluated on the basis of the overall best value to the City based on quality, service, past performance, price and any other criteria set out.

The Closing date for the request for proposals is 1 PM on August 30th
