High Running Rivers have communities on alert across Northwest BC

With another day of rain arriving today and more to come on the weekend, the situation along the Rivers of Northwest British Columbia gained additional attention today with the latest update from the River Forecast Centre providing for two currents for the Skeena.

Over the course of the last few days, evacuation orders were issued for Old and New Remo, with the City of Terrace also closing a number of recreation sites and opening its Emergency Operations Centre.

Communications from the City of Terrace can be accessed here, while updates from Smithers area available here.

Images of the flooding are available through the Terrace area media with both CFTK TV and CFNR Radio providing some glimpses of the situation, with Social Media also providing a window into conditions.

You can access more information about the status of flooding across the region by clicking on the coloured map that is part of this link to the River Forecast Centre.

As of Thursday data from Environment Canada shows that the Prince Rupert area had received 150.8 mm of rain since Sunday, Terrace has received 24.4 mm of rain in the same period of time, the rising rivers are also being fed by snow melt from area mountains.
