The road to Prince Rupert will be the focus for nineteen riders starting on Friday, September 17th as the Cops for Cancer Tour de North launches from the parking lot of the Prince George Canadian Tire.

Participants for this years cycling fundraising event include members of the RCMP, BC Sheriff's Office, Firefighters, Paramedics and health professionals from across the north. Along with a support team to lend a hand as they cross the vast expanse of Northwestern BC to the North Coast.

The itinerary for the Tour takes the participants westbound on Highway 16 with a few side trips and stops along the way before the final stretch  of Terrace to Prince Rupert on September 23rd.

Last week we made note of two Prince Rupert riders that had been profiled in the event, Jordan Venditelli and Jessica Friesen

They make up one third of a six person contingent on the ride representing Prince Rupert, a collective that will have a little extra push to give on the pedals once they hit the Port Edward turnoff and the homestretch for the 2021 Tour de North next Thursday.

An arrival that should see some strong community support to welcome the nineteen to the North Coast.

The four additional riders on the Rupert roster include: Taylor Reeve, Luke Knechtel, Michael Pleskina and Megan McKellar.

You can learn more about the Six riders from Prince Rupert and those from across Northern BC participating in this years tour from the Tour de North website and Facebook page.

Each entry on the website also offers an opportunity for residents of the region to pledge their support to a rider, with the nineteen having brought the tour to 83% of their fundraising goal of 100,000 dollars as of this morning.

The money raised will be in support of Childhood cancer research and support services for the Canadian Cancer Society.

As the participants hit the highway on Friday, you can follow their progress through their social media streams of Facebook and Instagram
