It's been a busy weekend for those working the customer help lines at CityWest, that is when customers have been able to get through, that as the Northwest communication provider suffers a number of service issues which appear to have started as the weekend got underway.

Two notices to the CityWest Facebook page provide for updates, one related to accessing technical help and the other advising of ongoing issues related to service outages which the company notes are being investigated.

Among some of the technical issues of the day, Interest users have had troubles accessing websites, with pages loading slowly and connection problems making for a frustrating day for those making use of the net.

Little else has been shared so far on the situation which is impacting not only service in Prince Rupert but to points east and in Alaska as well, you can monitor the CityWest Social Media feed for updates.

  1. If the pandemic showed us anything it is that broadband is essential.

To only have one internet service provider in this day and age is no longer an option.

By having a municipal internet/TV/Phone monopoly we have witnessed a decline in product quality and a loss of innovation.

Without choice and competition, Rupert residents and businesses will continue to miss out on value added services and emerging technologies offered by the likes of Shaw, Rogers and Telus.

Time for choice, no more citywest monopoly in Prince Rupert. #citywestout
