Reduced case counts for most Northwest communities, moves Prince Rupert to top of the COVID case report list for this week of review

The final report for the month of April from the BC CDC on Northern Health COVID case counts shows some declines for a number of Northwest communities. With Prince Rupert now at the top of their notes for the region, that more through the reduced numbers from other communities as opposed to any increased counts on the North Coast.

This week's data  for the period of April 24-30 indicated that those communities with cases to report in the Northwest had in many instances realized declines, or held to the same numbers as the week previous.

The results for Prince Rupert at 7 provided for no change from the week prior, while Terrace saw a reliance in reported cases from 13 to 6 this week.

Smithers reversed last week's jump, with data reflecting just three cases this week for the Bulkley Valley community.

Haida Gwaii however doubled its reported cases from last week, listing six for the current period of review.

The highest numbers listed in Northern British Columbia's continue to come from its largest community, with Prince George recording a case count of 64 in the period.

The full review across the region for the week of April 24 - April 30  from the BC CDC looks as follows:

Prince Rupert -- 7 cases
Terrace -- 6 cases
Kitimat --  6 cases
Haida Gwaii --  6 cases
Nechako --  4 cases
Burns Lake --  3 cases
Smithers -- cases
Bella Coola Valley -- 3 cases
Snow Country-Stikine-Telegraph Creek --  2 cases
Nisga'a Region -- 1 case
Upper Skeena --  1 case
Central Coast --  0 cases


The Provincial Data Review looks as follows:

2,283 New Cases, with 550 hospitalized, 39 in Critical Care. 50 new deaths from COVID were reported for a provincial total of 3,226 to date.

There have been 365,577 cases of COVID recorded in the province since the arrival of the pandemic

As of May 5th the Province had administered 11,637,908 doses of COVID Vaccine in first, second or booster shots, with a fourth booster program for specific groups underway.

Thursday's provincial report lists  128 new cases of COVID for the Northern Health region for the reporting week. That makes for a total of 29,815 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic.

For the Northern Health Region in total as of Thursday, 18 patients are listed as in hospital, with  4 noted as in Critical Care, the Northern Health region recorded one new death this week, the Northern Health total of deaths attributed to COVID is listed as 337 since the start of the pandemic.

The  breakdown of hospitalizations by community in the Northern Health region is not included in the data release information.
