Equipment issues in Southern BC slows down the Prince Rupert Internet experience

A Slow Internet for customers was the topic for a weekend
message from CityWest in Prince Rupert

Another equipment issue far from the home office on Third Avenue West has left Prince Rupert internet users and those along the CityWest Northwest network finding some sluggish speeds, webpages that need some time to load and buffering  video as part of their weekend experiences.

CityWest advised the public of the issue on Sunday evening, through their Social Media stream,  noting of the nature of the break and the efforts underway for repair.

"We are aware of an issue causing slow Internet speeds for our customers. This is due to a broken link with one of our bandwidth providers in southern B.C., we have had to reroute our traffic through an alternate link.

Technicians are working to gain site access and assess the damage. We will provide updates as they become available." -- A CityWest advisory posted to their Social Media Account over the weekend on the state of Internet connectivity along their system

The current status of the situation is noted as well on the CityWest Maintenance Page.

To check on the status of those repairs, you can access that page here.

No timeline has been outlined as to when those repairs may be completed and full service will return.

As they wait on those updates, through the CityWest Facebook post, customers are sharing a few thoughts, some of frustration, as well as others to express some sympathy for the situation that CityWest is dealing with.

The message for customers also outlined CityWest's involvement with the Connected Coast and how once completed that fibre optic connection to Vancouver Island and beyond will provide for a second entry point into the Northwest, something which will offer additional connectivity for when such incidents occur.

You can learn more about the Connected Coast initiative and its progress to date here.
