Moose Hide Campaign Day observed across Canada

Taking a stand against Violence towards Women and Children is the focus for today as Canadians take time to join in on the Moose Hide Campaign,  a program to call awareness to the issue that was launched 11 years ago.

The day which organizers note is a national ceremony, challenges men and boys to fast together from sunrise to sunset to deepen the experience and to resolve to create safe families, communities and a safe country for all women and children.

The City of Prince Rupert declared this day Moose Hide Campaign Day at their April 25th Council Session and as we noted at the time, Corporate Administrator Rosa Miller, provided some background towards the campaign for the city's councillors and the public at large.

"The Moose Hide campaign began as an Indigenous led British Columbia reconciliation movement that called upon all Canadian to stand together to end violence against women and children.  It has since grown into a nationwide movement of Indigenous and Non Indigenous Canadians, from communities, First Nations, Governments, Schools, Colleges and Universities, Police Forces and many other organizations across Canada. All committed to taking action to end this violence."

The City has added more to the information flow on the occasion today, with the Official Proclamation from Mayor Lee Brain included in their Social Media stream today.

There will be a livestream of today's observation of the Moose Hide Campaign events, which will be available through a YouTube feed, you can follow the event through the day from this link.

The City's proclamation and focus on the day was noted by organizers today with a thank you posted to the Moose Hide Campaign Day Social media stream.
