COVID Case count declines recorded over last seven days across NW

BC CDC Data on COVID for May 1-7

The first weekly report for May from the BC CDC on Northern Health COVID case counts shows a string of declines for a number of Northwest communities. With Prince Rupert relinquishing its short one week placement at the top of the COVID case reports for the region, returning Terrace to the top of the Northwest listings.

The results for Prince Rupert at 3 brings Terrace back to the top of the Northwest listings at 6 this week.

Smithers held at just three cases this week for the Bulkley Valley community.

Haida Gwaii recorded no case counts for the reporting period.

The highest numbers listed in Northern British Columbia's continue to come from its largest community, with Prince George recording a case count of 48 in the period which is a decline from 64 last week.

The full review across the region for the week of May 1-7  from the BC CDC looks as follows:

Terrace -- 6 cases
Nechako --  4 cases
Smithers -- cases
Bella Coola Valley -- 3 cases
Prince Rupert -- 3 cases
Burns Lake --  2 cases
Kitimat --  1 case
Nisga'a Region -- 1 case
Upper Skeena --  1 case
Haida Gwaii --  0 cases
Snow Country-Stikine-Telegraph Creek --  0 cases
Central Coast --  0 cases

The Provincial Data Review looks as follows:

1,987 New Cases, with 596 hospitalized, 54 in Critical Care. and 59 new deaths from COVID were reported, all of which mark an increase from one week ago. The total number of deaths in BC since the start of the coronavirus is 3,307 to date.

There have been 365,559 cases of COVID recorded in the province since the arrival of the pandemic

As of May 12th the Province had administered 11,675,163 doses of COVID Vaccine in first, second or booster shots, with a fourth booster program for specific groups underway.

Thursday's provincial report lists  97 new cases of COVID for the Northern Health region for the reporting week. That makes for a total of 30,040 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic.

For the Northern Health Region in total as of Thursday, 16 patients are listed as in hospital, with  3 noted as in Critical Care, the Northern Health region recorded three new death this week, the Northern Health total of deaths attributed to COVID is listed as 340 since the start of the pandemic.

The  breakdown of hospitalizations by community in the Northern Health region is not included in the data release information.

  1. You have to wonder how accurate these numbers are now that everyone has the free home testing kits distributed by pharmacies.

Yes, yours is a concern voiced by many, still until another way of accounting is offered, the best one can do is to just review the 'official numbers' as delivered each week ... though your point is a good one, the province does need to clarify its whole Data review approach at this point of the evolution of the virus. NCR
