Seafest planning continues as Prince Rupert's introduction to summer approaches in June

The May Long weekend may be the unofficial start for summer, but for summer festival season in the Northwest and Haida Gwaii,  the start comes on June 10-12 when Prince Rupert Special Events brings back the full return of Seafest Activities.

For the first time in two years, the community will be able to gather in large numbers in the downtown core on Saturday and at the Waterfront on Sunday as organizers prepare for a full schedule of events to mark the much anticipated festival on the calendar.

Last week, we made note of a couple of events that will help start the weekend of celebrations off, with a look at the Seniors Tea Cheer Box program and the City of Prince Rupert's 75/50 club plans for next month.

They are just the start though for the weekend of community fun that is ahead.

Among the many familiar events destined for the second weekend in June is the Seafest Parade through the streets of the city, those looking to participate have until May 19th to submit their application to join in the caravan along Second Avenue and back up Third on June 11th.

If you're looking to participate as a vendor Seafest organizers want to hear from you, with the deadline to reserve your space as part of the event coming up on May 19th as well. Organizers have already confirmed a few of those set to tempt your tastebuds come the June festival.

Sports tournaments and competitions are also set to be part of the weekend of fun, with the popular Three on Three Basketball showcase the first of the events to signal its return for 2022.

At the heart of the introduction to summer for Prince Rupert is the work of the volunteers that pull it all together, and after two years of virtual events, the return to the streets that 2022 offers will mean that Seafest officials need some help.

You can find out how to volunteer by contacting them here or calling 250-624-9118 to learn more about how you can help out.

As more events are announced, we'll add them to the list above and we'll have another overview of the three day event as we get closer to the June 10-12 weekend.

To keep up with the Prince Rupert Special Events planning for the event see their website and follow their Social media feed on Facebook.
