MLA's Week: March 4 to 7, 2019

Having just nicely settled into their seats for the Spring session and British Columbia's MLA's head off to many destinations this weekend as the Legislature enters a two week Spring Break period, with fourteen days of legislature work behind them before the two week siesta gets underway.

For the North Coast and Northwest, a few announcements outside of the Legislature made for the current of notes for the region.

An announcement on funding for schools across the Province made for one of a number of social media updates from MLA Rice this week, with schools in the North Coast sharing in some of the province wide program.

The North Coast MLA called attention to an update on the reception that the Highway 16 Transportation program has gained, sharing the comments of the Transportation Minister from the Legislature this week.

Friday was International Women's Day and politicians from across the spectrum paid their tributes to the theme of Balance for Better for 2019.

The biggest news of the week from the North Coast MLA came from the official opening of a new supportive housing  development in Prince Rupert, with the MLA and a number of local officials gathering mid afternoon on Friday to hail the opening of Crow's Nest Lodge .

While Ms. Rice was fairly active in relaying the news from the provincial government, she had a quiet week in the Chamber, with no presentations or statements over the four days of the legislative schedule.

On the week, Ms Rice was  not listed on the accounts of the sessions of the Legislature from March 4 to 7

The North Coast MLA is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, serving as the convener of that forum.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross had a few mentions in the Legislative listings as part of this weeks session .

The Skeena MLA explored a few themes in the Chamber this week, speaking to the issues related to the process of Child in Care regulations in BC  on Tuesday

The topic of funding options for LNG also made for a Legislature discussion theme as the Skeena MLA noted that the scope of the work ahead in the Terrace-Kitimat region will need some attention from the government

He also provided a short overview of his thoughts on the observance of International Women's Day, with his commentary a mixture of personal notes and observations on how women are treated in the political realm

Mr. Ross is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives.
