Go Slow in Lax Kw'alaams

Motorists in Lax Kw'alaams are being asked to ease up on the accelerator a bit, as the Band Council puts in place a lower speed limit for the community north of Prince Rupert.

The Lax Kw'alaams Band has started to put up Speed Limit 30KM/h signs around the community with more on the way to reinforce the new speed measure, which is in place community wide.

Those travelling near the Coast Tsimshian Academy are reminded that the speed limit there is as it has been in the past 20KM/h.

More notes from Lax Kw'alaams can be reviewed here.

  1. Prince Rupert city hall should follow this example on all collector roads.

    (Collectors are major and minor roads that connect local roads and streets with arterials).

    This bylaw change could have the following impact;
    - improve pedestrian safety (especially during winter months)
    - lessen the degradation of our secondary streets
    - Prolong the temporary patching of potholes, and road paint.
    - If this new bylaw is enforced, it could contribute to roadwork directly, albeit incrementally.

    Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
