Watson Island gained new tenants in 2021, opening an opportunity for a full overview from Council of progress at the Industrial site

One line of the many items of note from Mayor Lee Brain's year end wrap up of New Year's Eve,  provided for a brief glimpse at some new developments from the Watson Island Intermodal Trade and Logistics Park. 

With the Mayor observing of two new tenants for the facility that signed on in 2021.

The quick notes on the new tenants, made for the first real mention of anything from the Industrial site since Pembina began its shipment operations from their Terminal in early 2021.

According to the mayor's New Year's missive, SGS, the large international firm has set up on Waston Island.

And a bit of exploring around the SGS website offers up some notes towards their recently opened purpose built facility featuring a stand alone laboratory. 

A facility that the company notes is poised to handle all propane export demands in the Prince Rupert and surrounding area.

SGS is also involve in the agricultural sector and serves the industry through Prince Rupert Grain.

Also included in Mr. Brain's list of new arrivals is Bollore Logistics Transload, another global player based out of Montreal, with extensive services towards the container and shipping industries in a a number of global ports.

Already in place in Kitimat as part of the LNG Canada project, the company has yet to fully outline what it's footprint in Prince Rupert will bring for the company.

With the Mayor and City Council having committed to more frequent updates on major projects last year, it might be a good way to start off the new year with some further background on the new tenants for the Watson Island location.

As well as for City Council to review some of the recent history of the remediation work, as well as a look at how the financials of the investment are progressing for the city' s investments into the pulp mill site.

With little heard about Watson Island in the last few years, the flurry of good news is something that Council should be eager to share, with the Mayor noting of the potential for millions of dollars in tax an lease revenues that are to come from the rejuvenated site.
