Prince Rupert's Senior Men's Soccer club, Prince Rupert FC had a successful trip to Kitamaat over the Canada Weekend, one of a number of teams to participate in the Every Child Matters tournament.
Vern Barker's squad took the long way towards a berth in the finals suffering a 2-0 first game loss against Terrace, before finding their feet in game number two with a 3-2 victory over Kitimat FC.
Game three saw the men take on Skeena North with a positive 3-0 result, followed by a 1-0 win over Saskatchewan, a team that came the farthest distance for the event.
Two last minute markers in Game Five propelled Rupert FC to claim a 2-1 victory over the Haisla Braves, that game setting up the Tournament finale.
That one saw the Rupert side once again kicking off against Terrace, the result much the same as the ice breaker to the tournament with Terrace holding off Prince Rupert FC to stake a 3-1 victory.
Of note among the Rupert side having a strong tournament was Eric Lees who helped pace the team to their second place finish.

The event took place both at Riverlodge in Kitimat as well as at the refurbished oceanside pitch in the Centre of Kitamaat Village, the weekend one of community spirit and remembrance.
The strong results for Prince Rupert FC continues to show the enthusiasm for the sport on the North Coast.
And with hopes for an indoor program to come this fall and some talk of an indoor pitch for the community, the Senior Men's program is looking forward to the possibility of year round training to keep sharp for future tournaments.
