MLA's Week: February 25 to 28 2019

British Columbia's MLA's continued with their reviews of Finance Minister Carole James  financial plan this week, with a number of members speaking to her Budget of last week.

For a good portion of the week, that document would make for the bulk of the discussion in the Legislature, as opposition MLA's and government members outlined their thoughts on the NDP's themes from Budget 2019.

Later in the week, the North Coast would feature in a significant step forward in the treat process, with the announcement that the Metlakatla First Nation and Federal and Provincial governments were moving on to a final stage of treaty negotiations.

North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, had a busy start to her Legislature work week with a pair of themes to explore with the Chamber members on Monday.

On the week, Ms Rice was  listed twice in the accounts of the sessions of the Legislature from February 25-28 

Ms. Rice, had a spirited exchange Monday morning  with Skeena MLA Ellis Ross related to the recent funding announcement for communities of the Northwest.

She also delivered a tribute for Wild Bill Wesley and his time with with the All Native Basketball Tournament in Prince Rupert

The North Coast MLA is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, serving as the convener of that forum.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross also was engaged in the work of the Chamber as part of the proceedings of the week.

As previously mentioned, he and North Coast MLA Jennifer Riced had a back and forth on Monday morning related to the government's recent funding announcement for the Northwest

On Thursday morning, the Skeena MLA called attention to a visit to the Legislature by Prince Rupert resident Judy Fraser.

Mr. Ross is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives.
