Highway 16 CLOSED owing to High Avalanche Risk from Rainbow Lake to Exstew, next update at 6AM Sunday


UPDATE: Drive BC reopened Highway 16 around 4:30 PM, advising of weather conditions of compact snow and slippery sections with limited visibility due to blowing snow.

After a day of Warnings for a potential Road Closure, The Ministry of Transportation and Highways issued a ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE for Highway 16 on Saturday Night, that owing to a High Avalanche Risk located between Rainbow Lake and Exstew.

The first estimated time of reopening is possible for 9AM on Sunday, with Drive BC planning their next update for 6AM.


The Highway Closure came after an evening of Travel Advisories as conditions along Highway 16 and other regional highways North and South of Terrace continued to get worse, with travel not recommended for much of the evening.
