petition to rename a park in that city

Already a legend in Prince Rupert, former Rupertite Jim Terrion has clearly made his name in his adopted home community of Prince George, with a petition making the rounds these days to change the name of a local park in the Northern BC city after the renowned Terry Fox Run fundraiser.

The park, Community Foundation Park, is the home for the Terry Fox Statute in Prince George and the creators of the petition state in the preamble to the change.org document that "we firmly believe the part should be renamed Jim Terrion Park."

The park that would be renamed as part of the petition is in the heart
of downtown Prince George just north of Connaught Hill Park

As part of their tribute to Mr. Terrion, petition creators note of his fundraising accomplishments which have seen the former Prince Rupert resident raise over 800,000 dollars for the Terry Fox Foundation since he first went door to door around this city over thirty years ago.

The first goal for the petition creators is to reach 500 signatures, to date they have just passed the 350 mark, the petition was put online over the Thanksgiving weekend.

You can review the Prince George Petition and help out the cause if you wish here.

The Prince George efforts, could provided a bit of a nudge locally for this community to also find a way to add to the list of honours and awards for Mr. Terrion's achievements and his continued impact and ambassadorship for the North Coast from his annual efforts around Labour Day.
