Civic politics, fire fighting and police services all found large audiences this week, leading off with what is the first significant sign from Prince Rupert City Council that a new RCMP station is on the horizon.
The work of Prince Rupert Fire Rescue also found some interested readers this week, with two of our stories on their recent calls to action finding a good audience.
The pace of the provincial election campaign picked up quite a bit this week, with two all candidates forums taking place in the city, broadcast and streamed live to audiences at home.
Two other items to come out of the Monday City Council session also found a strong readership this week, with our notes on the Mayor's Update and some plans to seek out some COVID related economic funding for the old CN/VIA Rail station on the waterfront also gaining a good audience.
However, when it came to the most read item of the last week, the prospect of finally bringing an end to the long running saga of replacement for the RCMP detachment by far was our most read item:
Land secured, City Council ready to move forward with RCMP detachment plans -- The long delayed quest to build a new detachment for the Prince Rupert RCMP finally took some steps forward this week as Prince Rupert City Council outlined its plan to build a new police station on the current property of the Jehovah Witnesses at 3rd East and McBride. Our notes from Monday morning previewing the potential announcement, also found a large audience this week. (posted October 5, 2020)

One rescued, all accounted for as Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue battled downtown fire overnight -- This week saw another significant fire take hold in the downtown core, as three commercial spaces and the apartments above were consumed by fire, thankfully the quick work of Prince Rupert's fire fighters saw the evacuation of the building. The major fire which is now under investigation by both the Fire and Police Services, marked the second large call in recent days, over last weekend the members of the PRFD were dispatched to a fire at Home Hardware. North Coast candidates "Prince Rupert" debate wandered off the path more than a few times Wednesday -- The first of two candidates forums for the October 24th provincial election brought the three contenders together at the Prince Rupert Library, with the Wednesday debate often leaving its theme of Prince Rupert issues. A second debate was held on Thursday, with the focus on Haida Gwaii, the Heiltusk Nation and other rural areas, but a few Prince Rupert themes did sneak into the conversation. City to seek out Economic Recovery funding for CN Heritage Rail station renovation plans -- The City brought forward is ambitions once again for the old CN/VIA station at Rotary Waterfront park, making note this week of potential grant opportunities that they will be looking to access for the project.
