Damage to property was minimal thanks to in house safety measures and a quick attack plan by the Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue department, as they were called to an alarm over the weekend at the Home Hardware location in the lowest level of the Rupert Square Mall complex.

In an account of their work posted to the Prince Rupert Firefighters Facebook page, the Saturday evening call found heavy smoke greeting Firefighters, the fire having activated several sprinkler heads in the store.

Those in store safety measure proved valuable to the fire team allowing them to extinguish the flames and contain the blaze to a small area of storage space in the store.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which has been determined to be electrical in fault.
