Lax Kw'alaams issues call for Lax Kw'alaams Artists to work on design for new Prince Rupert apartment project

With the 70 unit housing project approved for 11th Avenue East on the east side of Prince Rupert, the Lax Kw'alaams Band is now moving into the design phase, issuing a call on Friday for Lax Kw'alaams artists to explore the opportunities available with the design team working on the plans for development.

For those with an interest, the Band Council has noted of a ZOOM call set up for December 9th at 5:30 where more on what they are looking for and how artists from Lax Kw'alaams can participate in the design process will be outlined.

Mustafa Kulkha is coordinating the Zoom Call and you can find out more about how to participate from this link.

Prince Rupert City Council brought an end to the public consultation process run in November issuing final approval for the housing development, bringing the process to a close after a two year period of review and two public hearings on the topic.

With the green light now in place, the Lax Kw'alaams led housing proposal will begin to take up shape on 11th Avenue East, though a timeline when it comes to land clearing has yet to be shared.

Something which will mark the first visible sign of progress for new housing in the community.

You can learn more about the history of the project here as part of our archive of the Prince Rupert 2030 Vision Plan.

Further items of note from Lax Kw'alaams can be explored here.
