The latest rules regarding travel to and from Canada by air made for some observations by Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach on Monday in the House of Commons, with the MP who is also the Transport critic for the NPD challenging the Federal Health Minister on government regulations, or in some cases lack of same.
The focus for the MP, was on the need for air travel regulations that both protect Canadians from the Omicron variant of the COVID virus, while making for more informed and sensible travel advice for those that are travelling at this time.
Mr. Bachrach also called attention to some discrepancies when it comes to travel between Canada and the Untied States.
"Last week the US introduced stricter testing requirements for Canadians and Omicron has now been identified in over a dozen states, but Canada's new testing rules don't apply to flights from the US"
As Bachrach notes in his Social Media feed from Monday, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos managed to actually duck the question, while making it into a partisan talking point for the exchange in the House with the Minister turning his focus instead on the Conservative party members.
The current regulations in place by Ottawa have been noted as confusing and leading to much in the way of stress for travellers returning to the country.
