Prince Rupert's Media scene sees another departure as CFTK TV's Corey Callaghan makes trail east

Local events and politicians will be getting a little less coverage in the short term as of tomorrow,  that with the departure of the CFTK TV's Prince Rupert correspondent  Corey Callaghan, who puts a wrap on his North Coast work today.

Callaghan who spent a bit over a year with the Prince Rupert office had previously anchored the radio news desk for CFNR, arriving on the west coast after completing his studies in 2015 at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.

His next gig takes him to the home of giant mosquitoes and will require him to change over from rain gear to a nice warm parka and some sturdy winter boots, as he takes up duties as a Digital Broadcast Journalist with Global TV Winnipeg.

Yesterday, the North Coast Review asked for a few departing thoughts as the TK reporter was making his final arrangements before his departure for the prairies ...

"It's truly bittersweet to be leaving Prince Rupert. I've met so many great people and developed a lot of friendships and connections. My time here has only made me stronger and I am forever grateful to the residents for allowing me to tell their stories over the last year."  ...

"Prince Rupert is lucky to have multiple radio stations, a TV station, newspaper, and an online blog covering the area. I hope the residents continue to embrace these resources and allow them to not only pass along information to you, but more importantly, allow them share your story. The world is only stronger when we're open with one another and nothing is left in the dark."

Those were among some of the themes that he shared through his twitter feed on Monday.

He compiled a fairly extensive list of work during his time in the TK offices at Cow Bay, one of the final reports from the CFTK reporter focused on the start of this years Cruise Ship season.

Some of his other work in the community can be found from our video archive of Prince Rupert items here.

Those wishing to follow his work as he takes up his duties in the middle of the pack of the nations Top ten media markets can seek out Global Winnipeg, should their television provider offer up the time shifting option, you can also follow the Global website for video feeds.

Mr. Callaghan is the latest of former TK employees to make the trip east (not that there are many other directions to travel mind you), with Global seemingly one of the go to destinations for those looking to advance their careers in a larger market.

The local television station which broadcasts out of Terrace is operated by Bell Media, and they have already started their search for a replacement, posting the help wanted advertisement last week.

Bell Media is looking for a Video Journalist/Radio Reporter to join the news reporting team for CFTK-TV, EZ Rock 590 and CJFW-FM based out of Prince Rupert, BC. The primary responsibility of the Video Journalist/Radio Reporter is to track down stories, attend news events and edit and produce stories for radio, television and the web.

The beat reporter provides the flexibility to cover news conferences, breaking news stories and regularly scheduled news conferences across the Northwest. Located at our studios in Prince Rupert, BC, the Video Journalist/Radio Reporter will be part of a team of reporters and anchors covering the Northwest BC region from the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District to the North Coast and up to the Alaska Border.
