With winter fast approaching, the 2017 Northwest Ski Season isn't too far away either and this year Shames Mountain is welcoming a new addition to the fleet, with the arrival this week of a new Snowcat for the popular Northwest ski runs.

The purchase of the new piece of equipment came as part of fundraising efforts through the My Mountain Co-op Shames Mountain.

As well, Shames had some valuable financial assistance through the support of a number of Northwest companies and organizations, among theme were:

Port of Prince Rupert
CityWest
Loaded Sports
Northwest Avalanche Solutions
Mount Remo Backcountry Society
Meg Houle's Dog Treats
Kitimat
PRINOTH - Tracked Utility Vehicles

Both the Port of Prince Rupert and CityWest took to their social media streams to congratulate Shames on their successful quest to purchase the machine.

The fundraising towards the project has been an ongoing initiative, some background into the work put into getting the new Snowcat which cost towards $300,000 can be found here, with more details on how you can help contribute to the Ski Hill.

Shames is now looking for some name suggestions for the new machine, you can offer up your suggestions through the Shames Mountain Facebook page.

So far Silver Bullet, Silver Snow, Lone Ranger, Excaliber, Snowy McSnowface and Storm Trooper have proven to be popular suggestions.

Other notes from the Mountain include some background related to some recent work on the Shames Mountain Road, which suffered a washout and required some repair work.

Nechako Northcoast Construction took charge of the task and responded to the challenges with some quick results.
