The ongoing plague of convenience store robberies continued on Tuesday evening, with a west end store once again the victim of a brazen and threatening incident.
The report of a robbery at the Park Avenue Corner Store was relayed to the RCMP at on Tuesday evening just after 9:30, with Mounties responding quickly to the call and arresting one of three suspects who had fled the scene.
As a result of that arrest, a 27 year old woman is in police custody while two other suspects remain at large.
The three had entered the store with their faces covered and brandishing weapons including an aluminum baseball bat and what is believed to be a machete. The trio made off with a number of stolen items, heading towards the Moresby Trail.
Several of the items were seized as evidence after being discarded by the suspects and in possession of the woman who was arrested.
Members of the Prince Rupert detachment continue to investigate the incident and have been conducting a canvas in the area, obtaining statements and processing the seized items, they are being assisted by the detachment's Police Forensics Section.
Investigators have received information in respect to the outstanding suspects and continue to work through their investigation process.
The RCMP believe that this incident was isolated to the convenience store and that there is no safety concern for the public.
Sergeant Jagdev Uppal, the Acting Detachment commander provided notice for residents of the city that "Crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in our community"
The Acting detachment commander is asking for the assistance of the public on this case and if you have information related to the crime you are asked to contact the RCMP at 250-627-0700 or at Crime Stopper at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).
Police are particularly interested in anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious between 9 and 11 PM in the Park Avenue area on Tuesday evening.

Tuesday night's robbery is the second such incident at the Park Avenue store, the previous one took place in July of this year.

Update: November 9 -- The Prince Rupert detachment has announced that two more suspects are now in custody as part of their investigation into the PJ's Park Avenue Store robbery, the two males will make an appearance in Prince Rupert Court today. The search continues for a fourth suspect in the incident.
