Lax Kw'alaams prepares to distribute LNG cash to members

The Pacific Northwest LNG project may be but a memory for the North Coast these days, but for residents of Lax Kw'alaams the one time proposed LNG project is about to provide some additional cash for members of the First Nation north of Prince Rupert.

Through their Facebook page, the Lax Kw'alaam Band Council has delivered an update for its members, making note of a recent decision of the Council to provide All registered Band members with a one-time disbursement of 2,000 dollars each.

The money to be distributed is coming as a result of the past benefits agreement that the Band Council negotiated with Pacific NorthWest LNG and the Province of British Columbia.

Documentation for those that qualify is available through the Lax Kw'alaams website (see here) the distribution of the funds is noted as a one time gift for Lax Kw'alaams Registered Band Members.

Those that are seeking their share of the available money are advised to carefully review and fill out the form, making sure that they provide all of the information required.

The forms can be mailed, forwarded by email or hand delivered to the Band offices at Lax Kw'alaams or at the Business Development office at 100 1st Avenue East in Prince Rupert.

The deadline for Lax Kw'alaams Members to submit their application is February 28th, 2018.

The money is to be distributed as quickly as possible after receipt of the applications.

You can review some of the past history of the Benefits negotiations related to LNG, as well as other items of interest from Lax Kw'alaams through our archive page here.
