As Seafest weekend approaches, Seniors to take Centre Stage on Friday afternoon

Prince Rupert's annual kick off to the summer season is almost here, with the 2018 edition of the festival set for a full weekend of events from Friday through to Sunday at a range of venues and locations around the city.

Celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year, the theme of this years Seafest is return to the 1978 theme of "The Way We Were"

One of the highlight events for the weekend is the one that officially launches the Seafestt weekend with the Seniors Tea, a two hour celebration of those that helped to build the city and have lived through the ups and the downs over the decades.

This years event once again takes place at the Highliner Plaza Hotel on 1st Avenue from 1:30 to 3:30 with refreshments, Door Prizes and Entertainment set for the Friday celebration.

The newest members of the 75/50 Club will be recognized for their contribution to the community, with the afternoon event organized by the Prince Rupert Special Events Society and co-sponsored by the City of Prince Rupert.

If you, or someone you know qualifies for membership in the 75/50 Club (Seventy Five years of age or Fifty years or more of residence in Prince Rupert) you are asked to contact Rose Balderson, Administrative Assistant at City Hall to have the resident placed on the list.

You can call Ms. Balderson at 250-627-0937 to be added to the honours list or for more information.

General Admission for Friday's event is 4 dollars, for those of the 75/50 Club the admission is Free.

As the week moves forward we'll be highlighting some of this years events in a bit more detail.

However, you can get a head start on your Seafest planning from the Special Events website, which has a growing list of activities lined up for the weekend ahead.
