Prince Rupert the focus for Friday campaign for North Coast candidates

With the official deadline for nominations having come and gone as of 1 PM this afternoon and so far, no new names to relay from Elections BC, the list remains at two for the North Coast.

Which, unless late additions are made note of, would leave NDP MLA Jennifer Rice and BC Liberal candidate Roy Jones Junior as the only candidates that are seeking the seat for the riding in the BC Legislature.

Of interest, and most likely a technicality from the Elections BC website, Mr. Jones entry has yet to be formally listed in their official notations.

That however did not stop the Liberal candidate from hitting the streets in Prince Rupert today, with Mr. Jones making a tour of the downtown area Friday afternoon.

The candidate coming over from his Haida Gwaii home to meet residents and listen to their concerns, or received some feedback as to how they may view politics these days and what may be needed in the North Coast riding.

The incumbent, the NDP's Jennifer Rice has been busy as well over the last few days, putting signs up around the city and working out of her Cow Bay election campaign office to keep up with constituents and hear more of their thoughts on campaign 2020.

There's been no word yet, as to whether the two candidates may have crossed paths around town today, but they will get to make with the formal introductions next week.

The 2020 candidates debate is set for Wednesday and Thursday of next week, with two nights of political discussion and campaign promises we imagine.

As we outlined yesterday, Wednesday night's debate will focus on Prince Rupert/Port Edward themes, Thursday's on Haida Gwaii, Central Coast and other coastal region communities.
