Coast Mountain College set to join in on Prince Rupert's Summer of Murals

More urban art is on the way for the North Coast, as the Prince Rupert Campus of Coast Mountain College makes plans for a Teen Mural camp this summer.

The program which take place from August 12 to 16, is an all day camp for teens ages 14-19 which runs from 9 to 4 PM.

To bring the program together, Coast Mountain College has recruited renowned mural artist Facundo Gastiazoro to host the initiative as artist/instructor; he brings a number of years of curriculum development and working with youth to the Prince Rupert plans.

His artistic work includes a number of large scale murals in Smithers, Terrace, Houston, Prince George and Buenos Aires.

A sample of some of that work can be found from the Smithers based Incite Arts Facebook page.

More than a staircase ... By September the Fulton Steps will be
the backdrop to the latest in urban art in Prince Rupert

The Prince Rupert project will see the artists paint salmon up the stairs that run towards the top of Fulton in between the two buildings of the campus.

Once the project is finished it is expected to become a popular spot for tourists and locals alike to enjoy the latest of urban art in the community and is sure to become one of the more photogenic of displays that will be part of the growing mural explosion in the city this summer.

The cost of the one week program is 235 dollars and you can find out more information about registration and other aspects of the Teen camp by contacting Coast Mountain College at 250-624-6054
