Road Work Ramps up around the city

Some familiar signs from around Prince Rupert this summer,
hailing the start of road reconstruction season

As we settle in July, road construction and paving season is into high gear, with a number of projects currently underway around the city.

The largest project at the moment, is the McBride Street water infrastructure work, which has been underway for over a month now, reducing traffic to two lanes for a three block stretch of one of the city's major thoroughfares.

A few blocks to the southwest, paving has been taking place along Wantage road, providing a new layer of blacktop on the once plentiful pot holes that made for the paved section of the road from McBride to the Salmon Hatchery.

On Tuesday, the city issued a couple of notices on other ongoing projects, the first some work taking place along Sixth Street in front of the Prestige Hotel.

The second advisory was an update on planned work in the Green and Seventh East area, where road work in the vicinity of the new Metlakatla Elders/Seniors Village is underway.

Just a few of the areas under construction today around the city

Also of note, work is underway at the corner of Second Avenue West and Third Street at the BMO/Post Office area part of the ongoing work on crosswalk infrastructure at the intersection.

Another area for motorists to be aware of today, is at Fifth Avenue West from McBride to Dunsmuir which is also closed to traffic.

Many of the city's road advisories can be found on the City of Prince Rupert website or Facebook page, those who have mobile phones can also subscribe for the alerts shown above through the City of Prince Rupert app, which provides updates to your personal device.

You can learn more about that initiative here.
