Paving plans close westbound travel along Sixth Avenue East Bridge

Getting from one side of Prince Rupert to the other today requires a bit of extra navigation, as paving crews begin work on the east side of town, with some major work taking place in the area of the Hays Cove Petro Canada.

Crews were busy at work early today as work gets underway on Sixth East at the gas station and approach to the Sixth Avenue East Bridge, with the Bridge now closed to traffic from the east and motorists being rerouted to Drydock Road or Hays Cove Avenue.

Flagging personnel are on duty at Drydock and 6th and at Hays Cove Circle to steer motorists in the right direction

The paving work is just one of a number of items on the to do list this week, as we noted on Wednesday, crews have been scattered around the city this week tacking a range of projects.

The City posted a Request for Bids for paving in May of this year, outlining some of the scope of their  paving plans for the year. The paving plans received a boost at Budget time, thanks to the influx of some Federal Gas Tax money, which the City put towards its summer projects.

Last year, Adventure Paving received $1,025,727 towards paving projects in 2018, that amount most likely will be much the same for this summer of the pave, once work is complete by the time fall rolls around
