Votes are in ... ILWU accepts new contract with BCMEA

There have been no details released as to the terms of the deal as of yet, but the results of a late June coast long vote on a new labour agreement are in ... with the ILWU accepting the recently negotiated deal with the BCMEA with a 77 percent vote in favour.

The talks which extended beyond a lockout announced by the Maritime Employers for May 30th, delivered the last minute document just as picket lines had begun to be put in place at many ports along the British Columbia Columbia coast.

The agreement brought a sigh of relief for many of the shipping terminals around the province, including those on the North Coast which faced a summer of labour disruption had a deal not been reached.

The eventual terms were negotiated with the assistance of Federal mediation.

More notes on the period before the deal was reached can be reviewed below:

May 30 -- As short lived lockout ends, trade flow again through Fairview Terminal
May 28 -- Coast long shutdown looms for BC's ports, as employers head towards lockout
May 24 -- ILWU reportedly set to act on strike mandate with job action at two Vancouver terminals on Monday
May 13 -- Membership gives ILWU strong mandate for job action if required
May  9 -- ILWU hold vote seeking mandate for possible job action

More note related to labour issues on the North Coast can be reviewed here.
