Swarm of seismic activity offshore of Sitka, Alaska and other areas of the northern panhandle today

The largest of the day's earthquakes along the Alaska coast was
located off shore of the city of Sitka


The seismic plates are shifting to the north of Prince Rupert this afternoon with a string of quakes ranging from a high of 5.7 magnitude at 1:32 this afternoon Pacific time to others listed at the 2 to 3 magnitude  level recorded before and after the larger one of the afternoon.

It has been a busy twenty four hours for seismic activity to the North of
Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii


The 5.7 magnitude quake was located 218 kilometres to the west of Sitka, 652 kilometres to the northwest of Prince Rupert.

It had a depth of 11.9 kilometres. There was No Tsunami Warning generated by this afternoon's seismic activity.


Shortly after 2 PM, Emergency Info BC had issued the all clear for the province.



The temblors of today are just the latest in what has been a string of small to moderate earthquakes to the North and South of Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii.
