New Gathering Centre for youth in Prince Rupert opens with debut of Raven Youth Lounge

Those who took in Registration Night at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre last night, had the first glimpse of a new service for youth in the city, as the City's Recreation Department hosted the soft opening for the Raven's Youth Lounge.

Located on the main floor at the Civic Centre, the Raven's Youth Lounge will offer a place for teens to visit for after school programming or just to hang out.

David Geronazzo the City's Director of Recreation and Community Services expressed his pleasure at the launch of the new service for teens in the community.

“We’re happy to be able to offer this new space to teens in Prince Rupert."

The Lounge is outfitted with a TV, couch, tables and chairs, as well as a pool table, and there are plans for a media console, community bulletin board, and additional game tables in the future.

If you would like to donate some items for the new Youth Lounge contact Mr. Geronazzo at 250-624-6707

He also took the opportunity to note how the recent Civic Centre Closure was reduced by 9 days thanks to the work of the city's partners.

Among the recent work  through the summer at the recreation complex, the city noted that Improvements include the replacement of the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre gas chlorination system with a modernized chlorine tablet system, and upgrades to the ammonia ventilation system that have been in the works since 2018.

In addition to the projects of the summer, the City is currently undertaking upgrades to the exterior building envelope.

The City celebrated the opening with an information release late Wednesday afternoon.
