Red Dress Day observed in Prince Rupert and across the province

You may see a significant amount of red today, whether through clothing or window displays around the community as residents of the North Coast mark National Red Dress Day 2022.

May the 5th has been marked on the calendars as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit +, the day one where Canadians are asked to wear red as a reminder and testimony for the Missing.

The Day has been noted by a range of local officials so far, with the City of Prince Rupert leading the way with a Social Media advisory posted this morning.

Also sharing word of the initiative of remembrance has been SD52 and North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice.

Locally, the Prince Rupert Friendship House on Fraser Street will be launching an initiative today which will see those in their Youth Hub Camera Club program chronicling the remembrance in Prince Rupert, by taking photos of Red Dresses that are on display in support of the Missing.

As part of the findings from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls the Federal Government has created a support line for those who may require help , find out more about that initiative here

You can review the findings of the National Inquiry from this link to their website.
