5.1 quake rumbled along northern Alaska panhandle on weekend

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded at Haines Alaska
on Saturday evening

Another shift of seismic plates took place over the weekend, with a 5.1 magnitude quake recored near Haines Alaska at the top of the Alaska panhandle, located 668 kilometres NorthWest of Prince Rupert.

The shallow quake which struck at 930PM British Columbia time on Saturday evening had a depth of 0.6 kilometres and was felt in nearby communities, including the capital Juneau 171 kilometres away.

No Tsunami Warning was generated by the seismic event.
