Fading from view! Ministry of Transportation and Highways contractors have removed one of the two cross walks at the corner of Second Avenue West and Third Street today |
There is going to be a change to the way you cross Second Avenue West from now on, as the Provincial Ministry of Transportation removes one of the two crosswalks at the corner of Third Street and Second Avenue West.
Crews from Yellowhead Pavement Marking have been working at that corner through the day today, with the crosswalk between the Bank of Montreal and the Coastal Business Resource Centre now removed.
The City of Prince Rupert provided an update for residents through the city website, social media streams and the Civic Mobile App program.
In their notes, the City advises that residents should now only be using the Crosswalk which travels across Second Avenue West between the Chevron Station and the Post Office building.
Work will continue in the near future to make the lights at what is now the now lone crosswalk functional.
The Crosswalk project was just one of a number of elements of their Prince Rupert roads plan that the Ministry has worked on this year.
The to do list for the province was created from a number of road safety issues that were listed last fall.
Among some of the work to take place included new traffic lights and audible crosswalks along McBride and Second Avenue West, as well as line painting, replacement of street lights.
One outstanding project that we have not heard too much more about in recent months, is the plan to reconfigure the McBride Street/Second Avenue West intersection, which at one point was being considered for a roundabout.
As well, one other item of note for the Province to address is the call for a crosswalk to be put in place on Park Avenue, a long standing request for residents and some on City Council alike
